Description: Desert Regional Medical Center (DRMC) is a 367-bed tertiary care hospital located in the city of Palm Springs, CA about 90 minutes from both Los Angeles and San Diego. DRMC is a Level 2 Trauma Center, offering High Risk OB, Cardiac and Neurosurgery with an on-site ASC. The total case volume is about 18,000 including about 1,000 trauma cases, 3,500 live births, 250 hearts, neurosurgeries,orthopedics,urology,general surgery and ASC cases.
The overall volume has seasonal variations with the busy season being January through March and the summer months being relatively slow. The surgery center runs 4 rooms for an average of approximately 8 hours per day with the 6 main operating rooms winding down between 3 and 11 PM and elective cases occurring over the weekend.
The anesthesia care team will have approximately 8 to 12 MD and the same number of CRNA working in a medical direction/supervision environment. The frequency of call will be predicated on the final model and census and some call may have the next day off. Cardiac call is required by cardiac docs, however the number callbacks has been fewer than once a quarter.
